Throughout our poetry unit we have worked on tons of different projects that have tested my ability to write certain types of poetry and to try and stay to the beat and rhythm of the poem as I write it. Either it was by following the bah-DUM or BAH-dum rhythm or by creative visual drawings with the words of my poems. It tested me by being more creative in my writing and to make my poems better. We started out with more basic and easy poems and overtime the difficulty of writing the poems got harder and harder to do because of the amount of rules and regulations that you had to follow when writing the individual poems. We all as a class were tested to write these poems in the most creative way possible and to follow the rules, but at the same time make it as unique as each person was and to reflect ourselves within our poems and to express our thoughts and feelings. I feel like during the poem unit my creative mind become more open to more ideas and I wasn’t as nervous about writing what I felt was write. Later on near the end of the poetry unit we were able to write whatever type of poem we wanted which after weeks of restrictions the ability of being able to have freedom in my writing and to write what came to mind was a well-earned feeling. When it came to the louder than a hornet poetry off I was really nervous because I was reading my own poetry to a room full of people who went about writing the poem in very different ways. I felt like no matter what my poems truly did express myself and my thoughts in mind and it was a way to express my creativity on paper.
